Happy Birthday to Me!

Today was my birthday. I turned 59. I can't believe it. Most of the time I feel like I'm 29, except for my arthritis. Anyway, it was an interesting day. We had to get up early to take Don to the doctor for a second opinion. Last Weds. we went to the ER after his lower leg, ankle and foot swelled up with no apparent cause. After an ultrasound to check for blood clots and an xray to check for injury, they sent us home and told him to come back in a week for another ultrasound. Well, that was helpful! So I found a doctor and we went in today. They also don't know the cause but there is definitely swelling (edema) in the leg. It could be a blood clot or possibly a cardiac problem, or something else, but they won't know until he has the second ultrasound and they see the results. So we are in limo. He is now wearing teds support hose. They are sexy white thigh highs LOL. He does have great legs from all those years of running so he looks pretty good in them!

So after that we took his Firebird to the shop, had lunch, ran around looking for the support hose and went to Home Depot to buy my birthday present...two lamps. Then we came home, I got two phone calls and paid the bills, and then Jesse, Karina and Lilly came and J&K made me dinner! It was sooo good! They made coconut shrimp, pesto pasta salad, fruit salad with expensive fruit that I would probably never buy, baked asparagus with garlic, chocolate cake and ice cream. It was sooo good. Oh, and they gave me Stephanie Meyers' book "The Host". (I know that should be underlined but I can't find that key right now). I had a great time playing with Lilly too. Now they have gone home and I am catching up on stuff and hope to get a really good night's sleep tonight.

So that's my big day. Another birthday gone by. Next year will be a little harder to take!

Oh, and I'm wondering why so many of my posts have to do with health???

Happy Birthday. The meal sounds wonderful. Of course today is Fast Sunday so it sounds even better.

Have they ruled out Gout already? Gout can cause very painful swelling of the leg. If he eats a lot of meat that can trigger it. There's a whole list of foods to not eat if you have gout (my dad has it). Happy Birthday (belated)! I'm glad you got The Host and such a yummy dinner!

I just wrote to you and then decided to look and see if you had an update on your blog. Yeah! Thanks for sharing what you did on your birthday. We'll be praying for Don and hope that his leg gets better. I have some knee high support hose, too. We should have a fashion show.
Your dinner sounds divine....and just what you deserve--a nice relaxing evening with your cute kids.

We asked the ER doc about gout and he said it's usually very painful so it probably isn't gout, but I still wonder. Hopefully we'll get more answers this week. Don probably eats more meat than me but he doesn't go overboard I don't think....anyway, I know gout is something to keep in mind! Thanks!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!
