Rest in Peace, Sox

Christie and Travis came up for a visit on Monday, Jan. 4th. It was so wonderful! They brought our grandkitty, Zorro. He did great on the drive from Arizona but wasn't so enamored of being in our home. We had to put up the gates to keep him upstairs and our cats, Sox and Pinky downstairs. Still, Zorro had a fun time and after a few days he tried to climb the gate to get downstairs. Finally we just let him down and all the kitties did ok. They like smelling each other and hissing at each other LOL.

We spent the week eating and talking and visiting. Jesse, Karina and Lilly spent a lot of it with us too and we had so much fun being together. I'm so glad they all get along well together!

I took Friday off work and we took Sox to the vet because he's been so sick. In the past year he went from 12 lbs. to 6 lbs. despite eating voraciously. He was throwing up a lot and having diarrhia. We took him to a new vet because the old one wasn't any help the last time I took him in for a visit. The new vet was wonderful and compassionate. He said Sox probably had hypo 0r hyper thyroidism (I wasn't sure which) and was probably achy all over. He didn't want to tell us to put him to sleep but when Christie asked him if Sox was his cat if he would he put him to sleep, he said yes. Then he left us alone to make the decision. We discussed it for a long while and finally decided it was time. I left the room with Lilly but Jesse, Karina, Christie, Travis, and Don stayed in with him while it was done. I am surprised at how much I miss Sox as he was so much work, but I really do miss my little buddy who for the last year or so really became a lap cat. I hope he forgives us for putting him to sleep. He trusted us and we took him out of his home and did that. Travis said he's probably grateful because now he can run around and play with Max and not be sick. I hope he's right. Rest in peace, Sox. You were a big part of our family for 16 years and as Jesse said, you were very entertaining.

On Sat. I took Don to the eye doctor and the eye doctor said we have to make a pact between the three of us that Don won't drive anymore. He said Don has a hole in his vision that could "hide a mack truck". He said Don should keep his license in case something changes but he should absolutely not drive. That didn't come as a surprise to us but it was still sad.

Christie and Travis left on Monday (Travis' 32nd) birthday and I went to work and cried over that and over Sox's death. My coworkers were worried about me but I was ok by the time school started. I just needed to get it out.

Lilly cut her hair on both sides of her head so her aunt had to cut her hair pretty short but she looks so cute! I don't know if it taught her a lesson because she feels very pretty with her new bob!

Jesse had a second interview with Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake. I don't think the job is his ideal job but it would be a good one. They kept him there for five HOURS interviewing him so hopefully they liked him and will make him an offer! I was proud of Jesse for going to the interview when he really didn't want to! Way to go Jesse!

Don and I are approaching our 35th wedding anniversary on Jan. 31st. Where has the time gone? It's been wonderful.

I am sure that Sox forgives you, I would have wanted the same thing if I felt like he did! I love reading your updates!! And if you ever need help with driving Don, please feel free to ask.

Oh, Pat, I know how attached we become to our pets. I know that Sox had a really comfy, happy life. He was lucky to be a part of your family. To have him gone and then Christie and Travis go back home--that's a lot to take in at once. I'm glad you had a little cry over it and hopefully that has helped you to feel better.

Pat, I am sorry to hear about your cat. It sounded like Travis and Christie had a good visit. I wish we were all closer so we could get to know you a bit better too. We saw them tonight because we all had dinner at Carolyn's. Joshua was just called to be 2nd counselor in the Bishopric. Life just keeps changing! Hope you are all well and have a great year! You are a much better blogger than I am...My posts are too far and few between! Love, Kathryn
