A Terrible Accident

What's going on with bad news from us lately?

You will not believe what happened to me today. This is unreal. I was driving near our house, on Lehi Main St. As I approached 2300 W. (?) the light was green, so I proceed through the intersection. As I got there I noticed off to my left that there were some teenagers who were running across the street (against their red light). One of them was right near my car - I braked and swerved right to avoid hitting her but caught her with the driver's side of the front of the car! She flew up onto my hood and then her back hit the windshield. By this time I was stopping and as I did that she fell off the car back into the roadway. I turned off the car and got out and rushed over to her. She was standing up by then and said she was fine. A man came out of nowhere, and a woman who was on her phone with 911, and we guided her back to the side of the roadway. She said she was fine but the man kept telling her she needed to get checked by paramedics and she needed to sit down. We got her to sit in my car and I sat next to her and tried to talk to her and so did the man and the ambulance arrived. They started checking her out even before the police got there. They finally took her off in the ambulance and I filled out a police report and gave them all my information. The policeman who was very nice told me that witnesses had corroborated my explanation and said I had no way to avoid hitting her as she was running so fast that it was unavoidable. So I didn't get a ticket or anything, and about an hour later the police officer called me and told me he'd gone to the ER to see her and she was fine, just sore and had some bruises. It was a miracle that she wasn't hurt worse. I mean, she bounced up on my car and ended up on the roadway! It was just like what you see on tv but it was real. I feel terrible about it and hope she's going to be totally ok.

She kept crying and saying her mother was going to kill her. She also kept apologizing and saying that she thought her light was green. Poor kid. She must have been in shock. The wonderful man who stopped assured her that her mother would just be glad she was ok and he was equally sweet to me. I wish I knew who he was! I am truly grateful for his help!

I spent about a half hour on the phone with the insurance company and Don came home early from work. I'm grateful for his tender caring.

I'm very grateful too that it was ok in the end....at least I think it's ok. I'm drained and sad tonight but it could have been far worse.
