I've been terrible about blogging and I apologize to anybody who's come here to read my updates and found nothing new. Time flies by on wings of lightning..so goes the LDS hymn. It's very true.
Our school year is now over. It was a pretty good one and there were many tears shed at the end of it. One of my preschool Dads (and his wife) told me their son started crying before school on our last day and the mom and I were in tears at the end of it. Zayne loved me so much and I loved him too...it's sad and hard to believe that I probably won't see him again. In spite of people's promises they rarely get back to say hi, and when they do, invariably their child is shy around me and the moms must wonder why they put so much effort into coming in to say hi. It's really hard to say goodbye when goodbye is pretty final. On the other hand, I'm now friends on Facebook with some of the kids I've taught over the year. Some of them are now in college! And they still remember preschool! Isn't that cool?
I'm lamenting the end of my favorite tv series EVER, Lost. It was an AMAZING journey that lasted six years! I'm still crying over the finale and still trying to figure out the mysteries! I don't think I'll ever like a tv show that much again. It trumped every other one I've ever watched, and I've watched a lot in my years!
Now the big dilemma...Don and I have been planning to go back to NJ for my mother's 80th birthday this July. We've both been looking forward to it so much, but now as we look for fares we can't find any below $400 per person and with hotels, food, car rental and air fare it will cost us at least $2000. Don says we can do whatever I want...but what should I do? That is a lot of money! It's a downpayment on a new car which we need! What do you think, readers? Leave me your thoughts, please! I am really torn over this one.
Karina and Jesse are expecting a baby in early November! They don't know the sex yet but it will be exciting to find out! Travis is doing an internship at Samsung in Phoenix this summer which he's enjoying a lot. I'm very proud of him for finding one in these tough times. He only has one more year left of school and then they will be going wherever his job takes him. I hope it's to Utah....but probably not. I hope it's somewhere closer, at least. Jesse is still looking for another job and is getting interviews now so perhaps things are looking up in that area. I hope so. Life is tough for these young families.
I hope anybody who's reading this is doing great - please leave me a message!

Tough call, but go. My mom just turned 80 in March. Because my brother who lives with her is psycho, I drove five hours down, had lunch with her, and then five hours back. He found out and went psycho anyway. But I would never have lived with myself if I hadn't made that sacrifice. Turning 80 is a big deal.
Oh Pat, you are such an amazing teacher. The end of the year was very hard for me, I just loved my kids SO much. Of course they remember you forever...they LOVE you! Hope you have a great summer!
That's a tough one! It's crazy that it should cost that much to fly there! - I think I'd check with a travel agency, (or agencies), to see if they can get you a good package deal that will be more affordable! (If you haven't already!) :)
I'd love to see a follow-up post, letting us know how things turned out! :)
Wow. I have noticed that the fares are definitely higher this year. Does your Mom have a car you can use?
Ummm....I also wonder if you could go a different time of year, but actually, second thought, you are teaching. oh, I know. Try doing the priceline, name your own price. It's worth a try. Good luck with your final decision. Think about it, if Christie was trying to make the decision on whether or not to come see you, what would you think? But I would see if I could skimp somewhere.
Thanks, BJ! We did decide to do that (check with a travel agency) and I will be doing that tomorrow. Joneel, my mom does have a very old car but we couldn't use it because she uses it all the time (yeah, I know, she's 80!!!) Oh, we tried Priceline, and there wasn't a name your own price option. I guess they stopped that. We'll work it out, and I will definitely post when I know more. I even thought maybe we should fly my mother and two sisters out here instead. That would be at least $500 cheaper. I don't know. As for Christie, she'd make her husband drive her! I do agree that turning 80 is big and we will probably end up going. But it will sure hurt in the pocketbook!
Oh Pat I think you should go, I made Rob fly with me and Olivia to my grandma's 85th birthday when Olivia was about 6 months old and while it was expensive, the oppurtunity to be with family was priceless. Have you looked at surrounding airports? I thought Southwest had some cheaper flights to Philidephia lately.
I guess we're going...we got the tickets tonight. Thanks everybody for your advice! I'm excited but already scared about flying. Please pray for us on July 9th and on the 18th. Thanks.
I'm glad you're going! :)
And, you are such an amazing teacher. I know Max will remember you forever! He loves you so stinkin' much!
Love ya Pat! :)
