STROKE!!!!!

All of you who follow my blog know of Don's struggles lately. We went to the hospital yesterday for an MRI to try to find the cause of these headaches and vision problems. After the MRI they asked us to wait to see if the screening was clear, and after about 40 minutes of that, the doctor called and asked to speak to Don. He told him he'd had a stroke...a full blown one, not a TIA. We think it has been going on for at least 10 days. We are rather appalled that they couldn't find anything a week ago at the ER when they did the CT scan! But anyway, apparently it's over now so the doctor, after considering admitting him and doing more tests, decided he could go home, take an aspirin a day and come see him on Monday. We were pretty upset about this news as you can imagine. I mean, he's only 55 and I married a younger man so he would live longer with me! Seriously, though, we should find out more tomorrow. In the meantime we are just staying quiet at home. It was hard to tell our kids and friends and ward members this latest development, and many tears were shed yesterday. We also had to miss a wedding that we had changed our vacation to be able to attend. Darn. But we are hopeful that perhaps the vision changes can reverse themselves as the stroke ends and healing begins. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support, it's really helped. Don is understandably worried and scared for the future, but I feel pretty calm. We are both grateful to have a diagnosis.

Pat oh my gosh I am so sorry! What a nightmare! You are right it is appalling no one at the hospital realized what was going on! I'm so sorry and we will pray that he heals fully and quickly!

Yeah, Jen, I'm not impressed with the ER staff at that hospital. Mostly they just ignored us and left us in the room for hours at a time while they looked things up on the computer..no kidding! It is a nightmare but hopefully it will resolve itself. Thanks for your prayers.

I am sorry you are going through this test of your faith. Hopefully with the stroke over, things will progress quickly. When do they think it ended?

Wow, a diagnosis is good, but shoot
I'd still like some more answers. Hopefully they are coming soon. I'm glad that he is still with you,
and hopefully he can heal completely.

I'm not sure it has totally ended. The reason I say this is he still has a low grade headache and of course the vision disturbances. We didn't get many answers yesterday at the hospital. It's one of the questions I will be asking the doctor tomorrow, for sure. He is feeling a little better but is still very tired. He thinks his vision is a bit better, too. We'll see.
