An Update

Trying out a new font tonight. Gee, but I'm getting tech-savvy!

Don got a call on Monday that the neurologist wanted to see him at noon. That was scary as that's her lunchtime, so we drove to Provo with our hearts in our throats. Turned out she wanted to discuss his neck MRA with him, because she says he has a lot of severely herniated discs in his neck! It was decided not to do anything about them since they aren't causing any pain.

His TEE and MRA were normal, and we found out his cholesterol is 160, which normally would be great. However, they want it down to 70 so he's remaining on Lipitor. She put him on another drug to control what she thinks are "silent migraines" which he probably has had for many years without knowing it. The stroke was probably caused by a spasm in one of his blood vessels brought on by the migraine, so the big thing now is to keep any more migraines from happening. It's pretty rare, apparently. So for now he's on Lipitor (cholesterol), the other drug (silent migraines), a baby aspirin a day and Colchicine (for the gout). He needs one more blood test to see if his blood coagulates too easily. If that's the case he'll also need to go on Plavix. I hate thinking of him being on all these drugs, but it's better than another stroke. She told him he can drive and return to work. So on Monday he's going to try to go back to work. I hope he'll be ok. He'll go in for four days and then we leave to go to Arizona for a week. We're both excited to go and spend time with our family! Jesse is renting a mini-van and Gramma and Granpa will be riding with them. That will be fun and we'll get to help Lilly stay occupied for the long trip.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers for Don's continued recovery. He still has loss of peripheral vision on his right side. The other day he ran into two people because he didn't see them! Luckily they were nice about it! He also still has the spots in both eyes, but he feels he can see a little better now. We are depending on Heavenly Father to continue to heal him.

In other news, we finally had to turn on the a/c today. It's been so nice outside for so long, but I guess it's going to really become summer now. That's ok though!

I've actually felt up to doing a few things lately so I'm working on cleaning the house a room at a time, cleaning the windows and all. So far all I've done is Don's office, the upstairs family room and our bathroom, but it feels good to accomplish something.

This weekend is Don's family reunion which we unfortunately are in charge of this year. It is a really bad year to have to do that, but we are doing our best. Tomorrow we go shopping for the food and stuff. It's on Saturday so wish us the best! I don't know how much Don will be up to doing, so hopefully the family will be understanding.

I have been following the blog of a family in Eagle Mountain, Utah, whose little five year old is dying of a brain stem tumor. It is just the saddest thing. The latest blog today said they think she has less than 48 hours to live. My thoughts and prayers are with the Huish family tonight. May Heavenly Father grant them peace and their little Sadie a swift and happy passage into the wonderful arms of Jesus Christ.

Thanks so much for all your help and prayers and phone calls and things. We are very grateful!

I am so glad that Don is doing better, I hope that he continues to improve. And we turned on our AC for the first time today too! 83 upstairs was just too hot for us.
